Introduction Much of the ministry of Canterbury centers around Canterbury House and All Saints Chapel, located at 1712 S. 10th Street, between Bagby and James Avenues. (This is just two blocks south of Baylor University.) Canterbury House is a place where a person can grow spiritually within the Body of Christ. It provides a home-like atmosphere where students can relax, study, meet friends, engage in conversation or do ones laundry. Canterbury House is open from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM. All Saints Chapel, located just behind the Canterbury House, is the spiritual hub of the collegiate ministry. Each Wednesday during the Fall and Spring semesters Holy Eucharist is celebrated at 8:00 PM. with dinner served at 7:00 P.M. Students serve as Lectors, Lay Readers and Chalice Bearers. Students are encouraged to attend St. Pauls Church, or Holy Spirit or St. Albans Churches, the other two Episcopal Churches in Waco for Sunday worship. On Sunday evenings at 5:30 P.M. during the Fall and Spring semesters, ESA joins with the Lutheran Students in an ecumenical ministry known as the Ecumenical Campus Ministry or ECM for short. The activities begin with Vespers/Evening Prayer that is followed by supper and a program of interest. ECM closes with Compline from either the Book of Common Prayer or the Lutheran Book of Worship. Students are encouraged to participate in Vocare, a collegiate renewal weekend experience similar to Happening, and the Annual Diocesan Canterbury Retreat. In addition to the worship experiences, students are involved in service projects and
various social activities. Students participate in a Habitat for Humanity project,
Christmas caroling to the homebound and nursing homes residents and the diocesan collegiate
medical mission trip to Honduras. Annual social events include a barge party, Halloween
Party, pool tournament, 80s movies night, Christmas party, and an ice hockey game. |
